Cindy Decker-Pickell, who was born Deaf, is currently retired but still teaches American Sign Language (ASL) at Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC) as an adjunct professor in Morganton, North Carolina. With more than 40 years of ASL teaching experience, she has taught all levels of ASL, including Linguistics of ASL. Cindy received her Bachelor's degree in English and her Master's degree in Sign Language Teaching from Gallaudet University. Cindy has obtained a Superior Plus rating on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) and Level 5 on the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview.

Cindy is a member of NC ASLTA and currently holds the Vice-President position with the organization. Cindy has extensive experience with the SLPI-ASL and has interviewed participants across the United States and Canada. The SLPI: ASL assessment includes diagnostic feedback and recommendations on how to improve their signing skills.
