Dear ASL OWL Community,

Here at ASL OWL, our year has kicked off with a whirlwind of excitement and opportunity. We have been busy forming partnerships and developing innovative expansions to our existing programs. As you may know, I was recently appointed by the co-founders of ASL OWL as the new executive director, and I could not be more thrilled to partner with each of you in supporting your professional development goals. As I step into this role, I am convinced that our work isn’t just important; it is absolutely vital. We are profoundly aware that each step we take to enrich the skills of interpreters creates a ripple effect of communication access in the Deaf communities we serve.

As we embark on this new chapter, we are not only expanding our programs, we are also reimagining ourselves and embracing innovation to provide better support for the interpreting community. Look at our exciting developments for the upcoming year:

  • Building inclusive workshops that support the needs of both Deaf and hearing interpreters in their preferred language.

  • Developing a groundbreaking mentor training curriculum designed to nurture the next generation of interpreter mentors.

  • Creating support groups tailored to the needs of emerging interpreters and interpreter educators.

  • Offering on-demand, asynchronous workshops/professional development opportunities.

  • Launching the OWL Alumni Association, complete with exclusive member benefits and content.

  • Adding new members to our professional development team, including an ASL Language Development Specialist and three interpreter education specialists.

Now, more than ever, ASL OWL has the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of both Deaf and hearing interpreters and the communities they serve. Your generous support is vital to sustaining this level of excellence and turning these ambitious plans into reality. With overhead costs rising, every donation – regardless of the amount – helps us maintain and expand our programs to support interpreters at all stages of their careers.

By giving, you support ASL OWL's mission and become our partner in making a difference for Deaf and hearing interpreters. With every contribution, you can feel the satisfaction of knowing you had a direct role in empowering individuals and strengthening communication access of Deaf adults and children. Your contribution is tax-deductible and sincerely appreciated.

Kindest regards,

Jeffery York, MS, NIC, Hub-CMI, EIPA+
