Aimee Anderson moved to the Charlotte area from Northern California in the fall of 2019. She has been interpreting in the community and K-12 setting for 23 years. She was introduced to sign-language through a childhood friend and continued learning more about Deaf culture and ASL, eventually becoming a student aid for a Deaf+ classroom in high school.

She relocated to San Jose, CA to pursue a teaching career, but found a very welcoming and supportive Deaf community who encouraged her to start interpreting.

Aimee accepted a staff educational interpreter position in 1999 and for 17, a leadership position within the D/HH program. This position allowed her the opportunity to work on several projects, serving as liaison between interpreters, teachers, staff and administration; leading interpreter meetings; mentoring; resourcing community programs; developing a resource library for staff, parents and students. She collaborated with D/HH teachers to develop supplemental materials, extension activities and interpreter training modules for several Deaf education curricula, such as the Fairview Learning Reading Program. Aimee teamed with K-12 educators from Fremont School for the Deaf to introduce ASL literacy modules into special education D/HH classrooms. As a parent of a child on the spectrum; she comes with experience and a heart for working with D/HH+ children. This has further motivated her to source materials to make language and learning more visual and accessible.

Aimee completed a specialized ITP- PINeS (Program for Interpreters in Educational Setting) at Palomar Community College in San Diego in 2006. This unique program centered solely on the preparing, educating and testing of interpreters in a K-12 setting. She is a certified member of RID earning her ED: K-12 certification and EIPA assessment 4.0+ for Elementary/ Secondary education and E.S.S.E assessment 4.0+ ASL, SEE and PSE.
